Whitby

Last year I was fortunate to make several trips to the north-east seaside town of Whitby in North Yorkshire. These were business trips but I made sure that before breakfast I took my Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 for a walkabout to capture the scenic beauty that this little town has to offer.

The famous abbey that overlooks the town enjoys a panoramic view over the town and coastline. It was the backdrop to Bram Stoker’s Dracula, the Victorian novel which has led to Whitby becoming the ‘Goth’ capital of Britain.

Fishing boats leave the harbour in the early morning. Can’t say I envied them – it wasn’t very warm…..

Church Lane, Whitby, otherwise known locally as Donkey Road, runs from the quayside up to St. Mary’s church and the abbey, directly parallel with the famous 199 steps. It is now a Grade 1 listed structure.

There’s something about beach huts that always seems to make a good photograph. Maybe it’s the bright colours, or the uniformity of identical little houses side-by-side, or maybe it’s just nostalgia about childhood seaside holidays.

Great memories for me and I am amazed by the quality of the images that the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 produces. No wonder that it was the compact of choice for such luminaries as Joe Cornish & Charlie Waite.
